Ungweru Organisation conducted an impactful Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) engagement at St. Augustine Hall, targeting communities around Luwinga township. The event marked the rollout of Ungweru’s SRH program, designed to educate young learners aged 12 to 15 on crucial aspects of adolescence and bodily changes.
The session covered essential topics such as menstrual hygiene, wet dreams, puberty, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and reproductive rights. Through interactive discussions, students gained valuable knowledge to help them navigate the physical and emotional changes they experience during adolescence.
Patricia Nyirenda, SRH Coordinator for Ungweru Organisation, emphasized the program’s importance in equipping young learners with life-saving information. “We have covered key topics such as puberty, menstruation, STIs, and reproductive rights. This knowledge will empower these young individuals to make informed decisions, protect themselves from infections, and understand their changing bodies,” Patricia explained.

Glory Kapitolo, a teacher at St. Augustine Primary School, praised the initiative, highlighting its long-term benefits for students. “These SRH lessons are vital in preventing early pregnancies and STIs among our learners. By arming them with this knowledge, we are not only safeguarding their health but also ensuring they stay in school and complete their education,” she said.

Virginia Kamanga, a 15-year-old student, shared her enthusiasm for the program, stating that the lessons would help her take better care of her body as she transitions into adulthood. “I now understand how to protect myself from early pregnancies and infections. This knowledge will help me stay focused on my education and future,” Virginia remarked.

Ungweru’s SRH program underscores the importance of early sexual health education in fostering informed, healthy, and empowered young adults. The organisation plans to expand the initiative to more schools, ensuring broader access to essential reproductive health knowledge.
