The workshop formed part of the SELL Programme’s ongoing efforts to equip young people with practical life skills that enable them to navigate everyday challenges, make informed choices and become active contributors to their communities.
Facilitated by SELL Programme volunteers Sam, Grace and Paul, the session created a welcoming environment where participants felt comfortable expressing themselves, sharing experiences and discussing issues that directly affect their lives.
Speaking during the workshop, facilitator Sam emphasized the importance of helping young people understand themselves before making major life decisions.
“Young people need platforms where they can ask questions without fear of judgment. When we create such spaces, we empower them with knowledge that helps them make healthier and more informed choices ” He said.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in discussions, reflective exercises and group activities designed to strengthen confidence, encourage critical thinking and promote positive attitudes toward personal wellbeing.
One of the most notable aspects of the workshop was the active participation of young people in conversations around Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH). Participants openly discussed concerns, asked questions and sought accurate information on topics that are often difficult to address in many community settings.
Facilitator Grace highlighted the significance of creating safe spaces where young people can access reliable information and freely express their views.

The interactive nature of the workshop encouraged peer learning, with participants sharing personal perspectives and learning from one another’s experiences. Discussions reflected a growing awareness among young people about the importance of making informed decisions regarding their health, relationships and future aspirations.
Beyond the learning activities, the workshop also strengthened social connections among participants. Through open dialogue and collaborative exercises, young people developed greater confidence in expressing their opinions and engaging in meaningful conversations on issues affecting their lives.
The positive response from participants demonstrated a strong demand for continued youth-focused learning opportunities within the community. Many participants expressed appreciation for the knowledge gained and requested additional sessions, particularly on Sexual and Reproductive Health and related life skills topics.

As Ungweru Organisation continues implementing youth-centred initiatives through its Youth Development Unit, the Chibavi workshop serves as another reminder that empowering young people begins with listening to their voices, providing accurate information and creating environments where learning can thrive.
Moving forward, the SELL Programme aims to expand similar engagements within Chibavi and surrounding communities, with increased focus on Sexual and Reproductive Health, personal growth and mentorship. Through sustained support and continuous learning opportunities, the programme seeks to ensure that more young people are equipped with the confidence, knowledge and life skills necessary to build healthier and more productive futures.
For the 34 young people who participated in the Chibavi workshop, the day was more than just a training session, it was an opportunity to discover themselves, connect with peers and take meaningful steps toward becoming informed and empowered leaders of tomorrow.
