Jalavikuwa Area Development Committee has approved the implementation of the Improving Income, Food and Nutrition Security Project, targeting 300 households. The project which is implemented with funding from Misean Cara was officially introduced to the ADC held on Tuesday, 3 August 2026.
During the meeting, Mr. Noel Kumwenda, Programs Manager at Ungweru Organisation, presented the project’s rationale, planned activities and sustainability strategies. The interventions will include climate-smart agriculture training, improved irrigation, provision of seeds and farm inputs, manure making, post-harvest handling, entrepreneurship, village savings and loans, cooperative development, small livestock pass on initiatives and agroforestry. The project will also promote child protection and safeguarding, as well as community-led sanitation.

The discussion was further enriched by Mr. Kelvin Zimba, Projects Officer, while community members actively participated by asking questions, sharing their views and seeking clarification on the project. Their participation demonstrated strong interest and ownership, with members expressing their happiness and wholeheartedly accepting the project as an opportunity to improve their livelihoods.

The meeting also brought together Agriculture officials, who will work alongside Ungweru Organisation and the community in monitoring and evaluating the project’s progress. With strong collaboration between the community, Ungweru and government structures, the project aims to contribute to better food security, improved nutrition, increased household incomes and a more resilient Jalavikuwa community.

The improving income, food and nutrition security is a three-year project which is being implemented in traditional authorities Mabulabo, Chindi and Jalavikuwa
