Ungweru Organisation through its youth development unit organized an engagement with young adults on the 14th of February at Ungweru’s Hall where it explored relationships. The engagement, which at its core was the concept of love, was deliberately set to take place on Valentine’s Day. Its aim was to help young adults on how they can communicate and respect boundaries in their relationships. The engagement also aimed to explore qualities of healthy and unhealthy relationships.
The engagement was titled “Valentines Day : Exploring Relationships” and was organized in light of the current situation where young adults are having challenges in handling relationships. Present at the engagement were students from Mzuzu university, University of Livingstonia and young adults from nearby communities in Mzuzu
Multiple activities were planned for the engagement. These activities include; photo language, Role play, as well as an activity on healthy and unhealthy relationships. During the activity of Photo Language, Multiple photos with the concept of love were put on display and participants were told to choose a photo which appealed to them. Participants then explained, according to their interpretation, the meaning behind the photo.

In the other activity, role play (consent in relationships), participants were put into groups where they made a play depicting a man asking out a woman (or vice versa). The activity of healthy and unhealthy relationships saw participants sharing ideas and learning on how best they can nurture their relationships in a healthy way and how they can be supportive in their relationships.

This engagement was facilitated by the youth development unit of Ungweru Organisation. The engagement complements the unit’s goal of training and nurturing young adults to easily navigate an everchanging world.
