ABOUT UNGWERU ORGANISATION
Ungweru Organisation is a Malawian non-governmental organisation committed to promoting human rights, advocacy, access to justice, and sustainable community development. Access to Justice protects the rights of vulnerable and marginalized communities, including women, children, and persons in conflict with the law. To strengthen its Access to Justice Unit, the Organisation invites applications for the position of Assistant Access to Justice Coordinator
Job Purpose
To support the delivery of access to justice programmes through legal aid services, legal education, case follow-ups, and coordination with justice institutions, particularly in prisons and communities.

1. Key Responsibilities
 Provide basic legal aid, advice, and case follow-up support
 Assist in prison legal aid clinics and community outreach activities
 Support preparation of legal documents (e.g., bail applications, appeals)
 Conduct legal literacy sessions and develop simple legal materials
 Coordinate with courts, police, prisons, and other justice stakeholders
 Maintain case records and contribute to reporting and data collection
 Support programme implementation, monitoring and stakeholder engagement
 Ensure gender-sensitive and ethical approaches in all activities

Minimum Qualifications
 Diploma in Law (minimum requirement)
 Degree in Law or related field is an added advantage
 Paralegal training with a relevant qualification will be considered

2. Experience & Competencies
 Experience in legal aid, paralegal services, or human rights work
 Knowledge of the Malawi criminal justice system
 Strong communication, facilitation, and report writing skills
 Ability to work with vulnerable populations
