Ungweru Organisation has taken an important step forward in strengthening its commitment to safeguarding, following a transformative training held from 22nd to 25th April 2026 in Lilongwe.
Organised by St Patrick’s Missionary Society, the training brought together individuals passionate about creating safer environments for children and vulnerable adults.
Representing Ungweru Organisation, Taonga J. Gondwe and Agness Chituli took part in the intensive four-day programme facilitated by Fr. Paul Asu, Ms. Ennette Mbuka, and Mrs Grace Malera. The sessions went beyond theory, equipping participants with practical skills to identify different forms of abuse and confidently handle safeguarding concerns through proper recognition, response, recording, and reporting procedures.

A major highlight of the training was the certification of both Taonga and Agness as Trainers of Trainers in Safeguarding. This milestone is not just a personal achievement, it is a significant gain for Ungweru Organisation as a whole. It means the organisation now has in-house capacity to train others and strengthen safeguarding practices across its programmes and partnerships.
With this new capability, Ungweru is ready to extend safeguarding knowledge to staff, students, and partner institutions. The focus is to build safer, more accountable systems where protection is a priority and every individual feels secure and respected. Supported by training materials and ongoing mentorship, the organisation is now well-positioned to implement practical safeguarding initiatives that can make a real difference in communities.

Ungweru Organisation sincerely appreciates St Patrick’s Missionary Society for delivering such a meaningful and empowering training, as well as for their continued mentorship. Their dedication to safeguarding is helping to shape a future where protection and dignity are not optional, but guaranteed.
This achievement goes beyond certification, it reflects a renewed commitment to action. A commitment to safer spaces. A commitment to stronger systems. And above all, a commitment to ensuring that every child and vulnerable person is protected, heard, and valued.
