Our Youth Development Unit was in Nkhatabay where it conducted a training on the unit of jusice. Present at the training were facilitators who are young adults coming from different districts in the northern region. The training lasted for 4 days from 23 January to 26 January, 2024. The training covered topics which include “the Media”, “Climate Change”, “Human Rights and Sexual Health, and their link to justice.
The first part of the training centered on the media and it’s link to Justice. Central to this training was it’s emphasis on how Young adults can be aware of the influence of the media as they seek the truth. During the training, participants were tasked with analysing three newspapers of different media houses. Through this task, participants were able to uncover how the media can make people passive and how media ownership influences editorial policies of media houses in publishing news stories.

The second part of the training covered the topics of climate change, and Human Rights and Sexual Health. During the training, facilitators introduced to the participants the vicious cycle of Climate change. The vicious cycle as a concept explains how human greed, arrogance and ignorance drives the indiscriminate use of resources and exploitation of the environment for selfish needs. Participants were thus put into groups where they discussed the best possible ways of addressing the vicious cycle of Climate change.

The facilitators also covered the topic of human rights and Sexual Health. In this topic, facilitators explained how factors such as human trafficking, child sexual abuse and Sexual orientation affect one’s right to access justice. Participants were thus tasked to form groups where they discussed how the said factors affect one’s right to access justice particularly in Africa.
