In the morning hours of Monday, December 16th, we had an engament on waste management with community members residing in the areas sorrounding Mzuzu University.
The engagement was conducted to address the issue of continuos improper waste disposal within the areas sorrounding Mzuzu University.
In the course of the engagment, attendees had mentioned multiple factors which they believe are causes of the improper waste disposal. Some of the factors mentioned included; lack of disposal bins, spirit of carelessness, nature of upbrining, and poor mindset.
To address these causes, multiple solutions were agreed upon. These solutions included; buying disposal bins, community members to take the initiative on proper disposal of plastic waste, community members to assist on raising awareness on proper diposal of plastic waste, and community members to attach posters in their business areas which explain the proper disposal of plastic waste.
In wrapping up the engagement, attendees had agreed to act on the mentioned solutions. To monitor progress, another meeting has ben set in january of which the date will be communicated.
