We had a clean up excercise on Friday the 6th, from 11:00 am to 11:30 am. This clean up excercise, which happens on the second friday of every month, took place within the surrounding areas of Mzuzu Univeristy.

During the clean up excercise, Ungweru’s staff together with students from Ungweru’s School of Computing and Tailoring collected plastic and glass waste which were not properly disposed of in the sorrounding areas of Mzuzu University.

The collected plastic waste is going to be shredded by our plastic shredding machine. The shredded plastics will be mixed with cement blocks thus creating a durable and water resilient block. This move will ultimately reduce plastic waste and contamination in the urban areas of Mzuzu City.

You may note that this clean-up excercise has not happened on the second friday of this month. This is so as Ungweru’s School of Computing and Tailoring is holding a graduatation ceremony on friday the 13th which happens to be the second friday of this month. So this month’s clean up excercise was conducted today to avoid inconveniencing the graduation ceremony.
