About The project
The consortium of Ungweru Organisation and CADECOM recieved funding from Misean Cara to implement an Innovation fund. The project is to buy a plastic shredding machine that will convert the plastic waste into powder which will be used for so many other uses including making ecobricks for construction. The projects aims at reducing plastic waste in Mzuzu and also providing a business opportunity with the Business Community and women groups. Currently Mzuzu City assembly has approved the St Peters warehouse as best fit to operate the machine.
The challenge
Mzuzu city Assembly has acknowledged that plastic pollution is a challenge which is charracterised by blocked drainages and unclean city. The problem gets worse when these plastics makes its way to water sources as it keeps contamination marine animals and water which affects human health.
Through the project the consortium of Ungweru and CADECOM will procure a machine for shredding, Engage the business community and encourage women groups to be collecting the plastics and selling them to Ungweru and eventually to the business community .
