About The project
As a follow up to the previous project, Ungweru Organisation recieved funding from Misean Cara to implement a three year project aiming to improve income food and nutrition security. Among others the project is aimed at improving productivity through irrigation. Farmmers are provided with irrigation equipment and starter pack farm inputs which enables them to produce more in one growing season. Additionally the project has a component of livelihoods passon in which farmers are given small animals (Chicken and pigs) of which after multiplication, ofsprings are passed to the next household
The project is run in the Traditional authorities Mabulabo, Chindi and Jalavikuwa.
The challenge
Agriculture is the largest economic stay for most malawians. However, the country is always having food challenges as what they harvest is not enough to take them to the nect growjing season.
The approach of the project is to help the communities harvest more that once through irrigation thereby inceasing productivity and making available some produce for sale. The project will also help communities to keep animals that will help them get animal protein as part of their diets.
