Background
Ungweru Organisation is a Non-Governmental Organization working to empower disadvantaged communities through sustainable development. The organization works in five thematic areas of Education and youth development, Health and Wellbeing, Nutrition and Food security, Human rights and good governance as a well as Environmental Justice. The organization has presence in 5 districts of Mzimba, Rumphi, Nkhatabay, Kasungu and Zomba. With over 20 years of experience in delivering community driven development, Ungweru envision communities that exist for the flourishing of all life.
The organization is therefore looking for a dynamic and creative Communications Officer to enhance our visibility, manage our digital platforms, and strengthen engagement with communities and partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and update Ungweru’s website and social media platforms, ensuring engaging and timely content.
- Develop and implement communication strategy that promote Ungweru’s programs, activities, and impact.
- Create, write, and edit articles, newsletters, success stories, and IEC materials.
- Design visual materials and graphics consistent with Ungweru’s brand.
- Provide communication support to projects including photography, video production, and documentation of success stories.
- Support fundraising efforts by promoting Ungweru’s income-generating activities (IGAs) such as school services, hall and chair hire, meeting rooms, and hostel and garden produce.
- Participate in proposal development and help craft compelling project proposals
Qualifications and Skills
- A Degree in Communications, Journalism, ICT, Media Studies, or related field.
- Proven experience in digital communication and social media management.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Graphic design and photography/videography skills are an added advantage.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
Work Environment
- Based in Mzuzu with occasional field travel.
- May require flexibility to work evenings or weekends for events or deadlines.
