Ungweru Organisation has, for the first time since its establishment, participated in the National NGO Leadership Summit—an important milestone in the organisation’s growth and visibility within Malawi’s development sector. The organisation was represented by its Executive Director, Samuel Phiri, and its Programmes Manager, Noel Kumwenda.
Held under the theme “Strengthening NGO Leadership for Compliance, Accountability and National Impact,” the summit brought together leading institutions and experts to equip NGOs with the knowledge and tools needed to enhance transparency, governance, and performance. Key presentations were delivered by representatives from the Reserve Bank of Malawi, the Malawi Revenue Authority, the Department of Immigration, the National Planning Commission, and several other compliance-related bodies.
The event was officially opened by the Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare, Honourable Mary Navicha, MP, who emphasised the role of NGOs in advancing national development and the need for strengthened accountability systems.
Speaking on the organisation’s participation, Ungweru expressed satisfaction with the summit’s practical and actionable lessons. The leadership noted that the insights gained will greatly strengthen the organisation’s administrative systems, compliance frameworks and overall strategic management.
