Students at the University of Livingstonia (UNILIA) took part in a one-day leadership workshop organized by Ungweru Organisation on 11 October 2025 under the Sharing Education and Learning for Life (SELL) Programme. The training, held at the university’s campus, aimed to help participants explore leadership approaches that foster positive change in their communities and personal development.

Facilitators from Ungweru’s Youth Development Unit, Taonga J. Gondwe and Patricia Lily Nyirenda, led the sessions with support from Aaron Mkandawire, a SELL mentor and UNILIA student. A total of 38 students—19 men and 19 women—participated in the workshop, with 60 percent having attended a previous session on self-awareness earlier in the year.

The workshop drew participants from different faith backgrounds, including Christian and Islamic students. This diversity encouraged open dialogue and collaborative learning. Activities included group discussions, presentations, and reflection exercises. Participants explored their leadership styles, discussed the role of communication in leadership, and examined qualities that distinguish effective leaders.

According to feedback shared during the evaluation session, students valued the practical nature of the training and the opportunity to engage with peers on real-life leadership challenges. Final-year students requested another SELL workshop before the end of the year so they could complete all four programme units and qualify for certification.

Facilitators described the event as successful, noting the participants’ enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the day. They also emphasized the importance of sustaining collaboration between Ungweru Organisation and UNILIA to continue empowering young leaders.
