After sustained rains that wrecked homes and livelihoods at Masasa Ward, Ungweru Organization moved in to provide relief items to the affected households. The following Relief Items were supplied: Maize meal, Oil for cooking, Soya bits, Soap, Tarpaulins (temporary shelter), and Menstrual pads.
Michael Mbewe, who was one of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude having received the relief items.
“The tarpaulins will provide us shelter, and the cooking oil, maize meal, and pieces of soya will give us the food that is desperately needed”, Micheal explained.

Another recipient, Ethel Kasabachi, expressed her relief upon receiving the relief items from Ungweru Organisation.
“I will now be able to eat, something that I couldn’t do following the rains that destroyed my house”, said Ethel.

Samuel Phiri, the Executive Director of Ungweru Organisation, explained that the intervention followed a comprehensive needs assessment, and after the assessment of the needs, the organization sought assistance.
“We called upon our stakeholders, including Bishop Emeritus John Ryan, from whom we received the money to cater for the purchase of the relief items. We highly appreciate the contribution from him”, said Samuel Phiri.

Chairperson of the Area Disaster Risk Development Committee Joseph Nyirenda affirmed that relief had made its way to all families whose houses fell from Gesha to Masasa communities.

While the distributed items offer immediate relief, more support is needed to help families fully recover. Ungweru Organisation urges well-wishers to contribute to ongoing efforts.
