Volunteering is a vital part of community building. It brings together people who are committed to achieve a shared outcome of making their community a better place for all. Through this lens of thought, Ungweru Organisation, though its Sharing Education and Learning for Life program (SELL), positively impacts on the community by training young adults as volunteers who facilitate community development and foster social change in their respective communities.
Of these trained young adults, amongst them are Jean Mkandawire and Aaron Mkandawire. The trainings these young adults have received have benefitted them personally and have benefitted the community at large. Personally, these young adults have been nurtured in such a way that they are now able to successfully navigate an everchanging world, have deepened their respect for the earth and are able to build families of justice, freedom and peace.
For the community, Ungweru Organisation has trained these young adults to become agents of change who are should reach out to their follow youth and communities at large. These trained young adults are now capable of guiding others to make life giving choices and to build communities grounded on love, respect and unity regardless of their differences which include but are not limited to religion, race and tribal denominations.
In her explanation as to how she has benefitted from SELL trainings, Jean Mkandawire says her confidence has grown as she no longer views herself as inferior to men. โThe SELL program has inspired me a lot. It has made me understand that being a girl is not a limiting factorโ
Aaron Mkandawile, on the other hand, explains how the SELL program is vital in fostering community building and includion. โThe SELL program has taught us to interact with everybody regardless of the origins or religion.
The SELL program continues to reach young adults in 2025 as it guides the youth in navigating an everchanging world.
