Our Projects Officer, Mr. Kelvin Zimba, explains the windrow manure-making process as participants at Mtende Community in Mzimba put the skills into practice. Using locally available materials such as crop waste, ash, animal dung, and soil, participants are learning how to produce organic manure that improves soil fertility and promotes sustainable farming. Such efforts contribute to climate-smart agriculture and resilient food systems in our communities. This initiative was made possible with funding from Misean Cara
Mtende Farmers Learn Windrow Manure Making for Sustainable Agriculture
Meet Nancy Nguluwe, a mother of six from Mtende community in Mzimba. Through Ungweru Organisation’s Income, Nutrition and Food Security Project, she received two pigs under the pass-on model. Nancy plans to share some offspring with fellow participants, while selling others to buy iron sheets for her house, provide food and clothes for her children, and pay their school fees. This initiative, funded by Misean Cara, is helping families improve income, nutrition, and food security
Nancy’s Story: How Pig Farming is Changing Lives in Mtende Community | Ungweru Organisation
Ungweru Organisation, through its Income, Nutrition and Food Security Project, has distributed pigs and chickens to participants in Mtende community, Mzimba. This pass-on program is designed to boost income, improve nutrition, and enhance food security. Each participant who receives livestock will later share piglets with others in the community, ensuring that more households benefit.
