Governance
Ungweru Organisation has a dual-board governance structure consisting of a Board of Trustees and a Board of Governance. The Board of Trustees serves as the institutional owners and acts as shareholders, while the Board of Directors provides strategic direction for the organization. The operational functions are carried out by the Secretariat, which is headquartered in Mzuzu and led by the Executive Director. The management team, comprising unit heads from Finance and Administration, Livelihoods, Skills Acquisition, and Youth Development, meets fortnightly to review and assess the progress of projects and programs.

Bishop Emeritus John Ryan

John Alphonsus Ryan S.P.S. (b. 27 February 1952), is an Irish Catholic bishop and an academic, who was the Bishop of Mzuzu Diocese in Malawi. Ryan was born in Holy Cross, Thurles, Co. Tipperary. He joined the Saint Patrick’s Society for the Foreign Missions (Kiltegan Fathers), studying theology in Kiltegan, Wicklow, and Philosophy and Mathematics at Univeristy College Cork gaining a Masters and Doctorate in Mathematics. Professor Ryan came to Malawi in 1978 shortly after his ordination. Before being named Bishop of Mzuzu Diocese, Ryan lectured mathematics at Mzuzu University, where he was a chaplain and professor of Mathematics.

Board of Directors Chairperson
Mr. Fanwell Chiwowa is a seasoned education professional with a distinguished career in Malawi’s education sector. Having held key leadership positions within the Ministry of Education, he has made significant contributions to educational administration.
After a successful tenure in public service, Mr. Chiwowa has transitioned into retirement while continuing to shape the future of education. He founded Dream Teacher Training College, which he now leads.
