The 20th of November, 2023 encapsulated optimistic scenes as community leaders and spiritual leaders in Mpherembe in Mzimba gave a greenlight to Ungweru Organization to commence its awareness campaign on women land rights in the area.
The Ungweru team, on the 20th of November, had set out from from Mzuzu en route to Mpherembe to inform community leaders and spiritual leaders in the area of the organization’s intention to hold an awareness event on the 29th of November, 2023. In response, the chiefs present had granted Ungweru Organization permission to hold the awareness event. The Ungweru team had also been given the greenlight to begin making announcements of the awareness event to the community.
Having been given the green light from the community leaders, the Ungweru team, together with Mr. Risco Chima who was chosen by the leaders to assist in making announcements, began moving around the area announcing to the community members of the awareness event slated for the 29th of November, 2023.
Ungweru Organization does not take such a development lightly. Co-operation from community leaders on such a sensitive issue is of great value to the organization. The issue of women land rights is so sensitive in the area as their culture, in most instances, does not allow the allocation of land to women. Approval from the community leaders to commence the campaign was above all a gift from the heavens.
